Carey Municipal Light & Power

Our Electrical Distribution Supervisor, Jeremy Traxler.

Our linemen operate, maintain and repair approximately 24 miles of electric lines, including all voltage regulators, transformers, lightning arrestors, fuses and switches required to provide the reliable, local electric service we enjoy.

We operate at a primary voltage of 4,160 Volts and a secondary voltage of 208/240 Volt. We have started the process of conversion to a 12,470 volt system with service to the new school, the new Arrowhead Commerce Park and the CSP substation project which just went on line without incident recently.  We currently serve approximately 1950 individual meters for our residential users, commercial entities, plus both small and large power customers, just as we have since 1909. (We're proud of the 100 plus years of continuous service and counting).

This department also maintains three 69,000 Volt sub-stations, as well as two separate 69kV looped interconnections to the AEP service grid.

We just completed a portion of a major system upgrade at our Ogg Street Substation. More improvements will be undertaken in the near future. This is another example of our investment in, and commitment to, the future energy needs of Carey and its residents. Additional projects’, including improvements to the resiliency of the 12,470 volt circuits and expansion of that project is being reviewed by our consultants.
